The garden as an extension of your home

We often pay a great deal of attention to our interior design. The right furniture, beautiful accessories, and great color combinations: everything has to come together just right indoors. But as soon as we step outside, the garden sometimes feels like it’s just an “afterthought.” What a shame! Because with a few smart choices, you can make your outdoor space just as cozy and stylish as your living room. In fact, with the right approach, the indoors and outdoors blend together seamlessly.

The garden as an extension of your home

1. Use the same colors outdoors as you do indoors

One of the quickest ways to create a sense of calm and unity is to use the same colors both indoors and outdoors. Do you have a beautiful sandy or green shade on your interior walls? Grab a paint roller and apply the same color to your exterior wall, fence, or a garden decoration. This automatically creates a connection between the two spaces, as if you’re stepping seamlessly into the same atmosphere.

2. Stick to the same decorative style

Do you prefer a modern, sleek look indoors? A rugged industrial style? Or perhaps a warm boho style? Then let that style carry over into your garden. A modern style calls for clean lines, muted colors, and minimalist accessories. For boho, natural materials, rattan, ethnic prints, and warm tones work perfectly. For a rustic look, wood, linen, and a soft color palette are a great fit. This way, your garden will immediately feel like an extension of your home’s interior.

3. Use textiles to create ambiance and softness

Just like indoors, textiles add a lot of ambiance outdoors. Think of different kinds of garden cushions! Choose colors and patterns that complement your interior. This way, you’ll seamlessly connect your indoor and outdoor spaces and you’ll be just as comfortable outside.

4. Create “rooms” in your garden

Indoors, every space serves a purpose: a sitting area, a dining area, a workspace. Do the same outdoors.
Create zones: a lounge area, a dining area, a spot to enjoy the morning sun, or a reading nook. By extending your indoor layout into your garden, you’ll create structure and make the garden feel much cozier.

5. Bring lighting outside

Hello, long, warm summer evenings! Lighting also sets the mood. Think warm-white LED string lights, a beautiful outdoor lamp, candles, or solar-powered lanterns. This way, you can create the same warm, inviting atmosphere that you love so much indoors.

6. The finishing touch

A few pretty pots or a bowl on the table; it’s the details that make all the difference, both indoors and outdoors. Choose accessories that match your interior in color and style, but make sure they’re weather-resistant.
